| 7/3/2011 10:31 am | My sincere commiserations to those in Canterbury and elsewhere who have been affected by this disaster. DonP, Wellington. |
| 8/3/2011 9:33 am | Hi, I am aware some of our colleagues in various industries may have surplus commercial space for the short to medium term, if you are able to make some space available for any of the now "gypsy" businesses now in CHC, this can be a win/win for everyone. Our office in the CBD is in the red zone and have found temp premises for 6 months out by the airport at Tourplan, who have kindly rearranged their premises to fit our team of 12 in while rebuilding on the CBD gets underway. As a board member of the CECC I also recommend you check out www.recovercanterbury.co.nz website; it has much useful information for business and also a commercial building premises free listing service. Cheers Robyn Galloway, Mobile 021329283 or email robyn@innovative-travel.com |
| 10/3/2011 10:16 pm | Our Lyttelton office has been badly damaged by the Quake and we have decided to suspend the Lyttelton cruise for at least 6 months. we will take group bookings for 20+ pax however. we will now have a small kiosk on the wharf which is not manned all day but phone diverted to Akaroa at the moment. Akaroa amazingly fine and its business as usual. Ferry to Diamond Harbour operating as normal and must be a great comfort to the residents. cheers Paul Bingham, Black Cat Cruises; email paul@blackcat.co.nz |
| 12/3/2011 5:02 pm | Hi Peter All Thrifty staff are ok. I have also spoken with other car rental operators and I understand that A/B, Hertz and Europcar staff are also ok. I would be very eager to know that all others are ok so look forward to that confirmation. If there is any way that Thrifty can assist anybody please let me know. Kind Regards Emma Earthquake Recovery message from Emma Gardiner - Thrifty Rentals |

| 12/3/2011 5:05 pm | Peter We are all okay but a number of our clients have suffered really badly e.g. Tram and Gondola. If we can assist any member with online internet activities let me know |
| 12/3/2011 5:06 pm | recovery message from Kevin Gough Mitchellcorp NZ Hi Pete, as you may know we are fully operational and have made space for fellow Skaleague ANZCRO to relocate here for a while. Are booking heaps of motel rooms! |
| 12/3/2011 5:07 pm | Recovery message from Larry Lumsden, Tourism Development Hi Peter, Many thanks for your kindness. Our CBD business cnr Armagh and Colombo was the home of myself and 5 staff. None of us was injured and we have all relocated to our inbound office (South Pacific Travellers World Ltd) in Wairakei Road. Travel is not going to be a priority for some time, so we have a challenge ahead of us. We will not be moving back to the CBD, because it makes no sense and there are no certain time frames on when the CBD will function again as a financial and retail hub. In the meantime, we are dealing with it in a positive and spirited way. We have found another gear. Many thanks. Larry Lumsden |
| 12/3/2011 5:09 pm | Recovery message from Robyn Galloway. Hi Peter, Thanks for the email. There are some things that SKAL members could do to assist. Our premises is in the CBD and we were gypsies until Tourplan based out near the airport kindly offered to re-arrange their premises and take us in for around 6 month plus, until our office at 269 Cashel Street is ready to be occupied again. Peter from Tourplan has been very flexible and will make the space available as long as we need it. This is a brillant solution and takes the way the worry of signing long term leases etc and provides flexibility for us as a business in the interim. There maybe some SLAL members out there whose situation has changed and now they either have more space available or have surplus space to their requirements and they are prepared to help other members in this practical way with sub leases either informal (which we have found to be helpful) or formal. As a board member of the Canterbury Employers Chamber of Commerce CECC, I can recommend the site www.recovercanterbury.co.nz They are collating all information regarding business premises short term or long term. There is no charge for this service. Perhaps in the first instance send out to all members for a member to member offer and then get members to go to this website as quickly as they are able to do so and also mention what terms they are looking for eg 6 months plus...so that business owners may quickly know where to go. As someone who occupies a building in the outer rim of the CBD we are exepcting that it could take 6 -12 months to move back to our premises which we know are basically okay, as 30 to 50% of the CBD will come down and it is going to faster, quicker and safer to let the crews get on with their job. As a board member of the CECC if there is anything else I can do to assist members with business questions please feel free to give me a call on home 03 960 9283 (there is no answer phone) so if not available on my mobile 021 329 283. Alternatively the www.recovercanterbury.co.nz website has a lot of useful information for business. Cheers, Robyn Galloway Managing Director The Innovative Travel Company |

| 12/3/2011 5:16 pm | Recovery message from Andrew Rhoades, Martini Associates. Fellow Skalleagues, The Family of Rhoades evacd Thurday after Q-day to the shakey haven of Wellington, with family. Like all "our story" pales compared to those that have lost or suffered through the loss. Dont know when we will return,if we ever will. Role the dice once, get away with it, role it twice and people die, why role it a third time. But in true "hospo" spirit, never say never. Andrew Rhoades Martarni & Associates. |
| 12/3/2011 5:17 pm | Recovery message from Gerald and Trish Wilson. Thanks Peter--trust you and Judith are okay. Our home is a shambles and we cant live in it. The Insurance assessor will be inspecting the home tomorrow and hopefully we will know more then. Rgerads Gerald |
| 12/3/2011 5:23 pm | Recovery message from Trish May. Hi Peter I am open and operational and happy to help in any way – business wise (e.g. newsletters/press releases/trade updates/brainstorming ways forward) or personal wise (e.g. laundry/re-charging mobiles etc). Let me know what replies you get and match me up as appropriate. Anton Wilke is in good shape in Lincoln. He has provided office space to some CBD refugees and domestic space to some friends. I know Thomas Rummel and family highly affected. Thomas is back at work at the airport from CBD. To my knowledge there is no updated to their home situation (no power/water or sewage). They are living with relatives. Thomas was in Forsyth Barr building. Cheers Trish |
| 12/3/2011 5:24 pm | Earthquake recovery message from Bruce garrett. Hi Peter, Good to hear that yourself and the committee are all okay. My family and I, and all our staff are okay. The George is intact, with minor damage but will be able to be fully operational once the cordon lifts and mains water is returned. Currently we are accommodating relief workers since at least they can be inside the cordon and it is at least something we can do to help. Kind regards Bruce Garrett General Manager The George, Christchurch |
| 12/3/2011 5:25 pm | From Laurie Renwick. Hi Peter. Hope your family is OK and your house not knocked about?? Perine and I and family are all OK. Our house is undamaged. Perine is off work (she is at the Otago University Medical Library at the hospital) and I am at work “on the buses”- not that they have been running until today, so all of our drivers have been doing bus grooming (to hotel standards of course, as I have constantly reminded them this week!). All of our staff and immediate families were OK- just cuts and bruises. One driver has lost a niece in the CTV collapse though. The next few months will be a challenge for the city though. I have already had 8 drivers (out of 170) resign or take long term leave without pay. Regards Laurie Renwick Operations Manager Christchurch Go Bus Transport Limited |
| 12/3/2011 5:26 pm | Recovery message from Vicki Newbegin. Hi Peter Oliver and I are fine. We were in Blenheim when it happened and continued our car rally round the South Island, rather than get in everyone’s way. I got into our apartment today, inside the cordon, and got some essential stuff, but we’re basing ourselves at Purau for the moment. 44 Purau-Port Levy Rd RD2 Diamond Harbour, ph 329 3346 Oliver’s mobile doesn’t work out here so mine is best - 0275 828 816 You’ll se him on the 17th, anyway. Hope you and Judy, and all your friends and family, are getting on okay. Big hugs Vicki |
| 12/3/2011 5:28 pm | Message from Jean Caillabet. Hello Peter, thank you for your positive email. We are all fine at Adrenalin Forest, the business is close but more because there is no point to be open right now. The staff is ok, they get wages, next week will be busy with maintenance and late jobs. We should have a good insurance cover for business interruption, we are still waiting to know how much we ll get. We will re open between the 15th and 20th, so it will be great to welcome the Skal members as a first large group after this sad day. Looking forward to seeing you all going ape. Regards Jean Caillabet |
| 12/3/2011 5:28 pm | Message from Tyles. Peter Marsley and I are fine; shaken, not stirred. Can you elaborate on the Ian Rivers incident? Cheers Tyles |
| 12/3/2011 5:29 pm | Message from Warren Barnes. Hi Peter, Thanks for your updates both personal and Skal. As you are aware the Barnes mob are all fine. The hotel is extremely busy. If any Skalleague needs accommodation for visitors to Christchurch they can contact me personally and I will do my utmost to assist. I mentioned to Leighton that I would be happy to host some sort of ‘’do’’ for Skal Christchurch where people can get together and share experiences and generally enjoy some conviviality if that is possible under the circumstances – may be some time down the track. Cheers, Regards Warren Barnes |
| 12/3/2011 7:32 pm | From Peter Morrison Many thanks for your kind thoughts. We and our families are all safe and well. The Classic Villa is still standing with just some minor plastering and repainting needed. It is closed at the moment, as we have no gas to heat the water. We hope to be open in a few days. Please become friends with The Classic Villa on Facebook, where updates will be done frequently. Out of Adversity!! We have H20!! At the Classic Villa the old well (1897) has come alive again from the "shaking" and we have the delicious alluvial cold cold water coming up. Have had it tapped. Great in the Gin!! Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones in this tragic event, as well as to those who have lost their homes and businesses. Quote: "We will rise to this challenge. We will be better than before. We will build a City that will remember and honour those we have lost. This is our place, and not even the terrible tragedy we are facing can take this City away from us. We have a great future, believe it. Bob Parker. Mayor." thanks Mayor Bob! With Sincere thanks Cheers Peter & Jan Your Hosts The Classic Villa Christchurch New Zealand “Kia Kaha Canterbury” |
| 14/3/2011 12:09 pm | Hi all present and accounted for in Mohammed/Idiens household Was in Cashel St outside my 11 storey building (ATI) 100 metres from CTV building. Picked my way through the city on foot children’s schools. Husband Mark was in Tauranga - a rather desparate feeling for him. Some bad memories of the city etched in my mind. My work in ’red zone’, think we have secured premises and will restart 28 March. Regards to all Susan Mohammed |
